 RESEARCH INTERESTS

Our research is focused on understanding the neurobiological mechanisms of comorbidity of pain and emotional disorders, with an emphasis on the neural circuits in development of negative emotion in chronic pain states. Additionally, we are also interested in how glial cells regulate neuronal circuit adaptation and its roles for pain. We are currently using a multidisciplinary approach that includes viral tracing, electrophysiological recording (in vivo and in vitro), calcium imaging, and molecular biological techniques, with the goal of elucidating how chronic pain modifies synaptic and circuit function through brain gene activity changes, in turn influences emotional behaviors.
