报告介绍 | 报告摘要:
Biomineralization is the process by which living organisms form highly sophisticated organic - inorganic hybrid materials. Characteristic for these materials is their highly optimised materials performance, their complex morphology and often hierarchical structure (see figure). In addition, they are formed in aqueous environment and ambient conditions which makes them attractive archetypes for advanced materials synthesis.
In this presentation, some typical Biominerals and their properties will be introduced. Mimicking the structure of Biomineralization proteins by synthetic molecules, control over mineralization can be obtained in terms of morphology and structure. It will be shown, that some of these mineral structures are not built according to the classical textbook knowledge of crystallization. Examples for such nonclassical crystallization mechanisms will be given and discussed. Such nonclassical crystallization mechanisms offer new possibilities for the control of mineralization. The importance of all these species in Bio- and bioinspired mineralization will be discussed.
