报告摘要:
  While organic molecules are recognized for their strong nonlinear optical properties, the main challenge for applications is the need of developing a solid-state organic material that not only reflects the high optical nonlinearities of its molecular components, but that also has a high optical quality and can be easily and efficiently combined with current integrated optics technology. The talk will review recent progress in developing a new approach to the optimization of the nonlinear properties of small molecules and the corresponding supramolecular assemblies. The organic materials created in this way have a high optical property akin to glass, a large optical nonlinearity, and they can be deposited as thin films to easily merge them with integrated optics technology and nanostructures. New "Silicon Organic Hybrid" devices have been designed and fabricated, and used to demonstrate all-optical demultiplexing of a 170 Gbit/s data stream.
