报告摘要:
Making atomically well-controlled graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) is a prerequisite for many graphene applications. We proposed two efficient methods of making narrow GNRs: using a single transition metal atom to unzip single-walled carbon nanotubes in H2 gas; and applying a uniaxial external strain to cut graphene sheet into GNRs. As an example, we demonstrated that a Cu atom drastically reduces the energy barrier of unzipping a (5,5) SWNT from 3.16 eV to 1.2eV, showing the feasibility of synthesizing high-quality narrow GNRs at only slightly elevated temperatures (~ 200-300oC). While, the applied strain not only guides O atoms aligning along a specific zigzag direction but also significantly lowers the reaction barrier and the enthalpy of reaction of graphene cutting along that direction.

  王金兰,东南大学物理系教授、博士生导师、东南大学首批青年特聘教授。2006年入选教育部新世纪优秀人才支持计划。2002年获南京大学物理系博士学位。2003年-2005年底,在美国Argonne National Laboratory化学部从事博士后研究。目前从事低维材料物理化学性质研究。
