报告摘要:
We have been working for several years to develop robust solution-based routes to the synthesis of nanocrystals and nanowires of many different semiconductors and metals. The general concept we pursue is to synthesize nanomaterials with unique size-tunable optical, electronic and optoelectronic properties and then manipulate them like building blocks into devices and structures with the potential to displace existing technologies. This presentation will focus on the details of the wet chemical synthesis of silicon and germanium nanowires and copper-indium-gallium-selenide (CIGS) nanocrystals and their application as new materials to create fabrics, lithium ion batteries, transistors and photovoltaic devices.

报告人简介:
Brian A. Korgel is professor in Departament of Chemical Engineering, Texas Materials Institute, Center for Nano- and Molecular Science and Technology, the University of Texas at Austin, Austin, TX 78712, USA. He got his bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering; Bioengineering option from University of California at Los Angeles in 1991, and Ph. D from University of California at Los Angeles in 1997. After he joined in University College Dublin in 1997 for his Post-Doctoral Studies. He received many honors and awards, such as Nanoscale Science and Engineering Forum (NSEF) Forum Award from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), 2011. His current research is in the area of complex fluids and mesoscopic materials, with particular emphasis on the development of new synthetic methods for quantum dots, quantum wires and quantum dot/wire heterostructures. He has published 183 papers in Science, Small, ACS Nano, JPCC, Langmuir, etc, filed 10 patents.
