报告介绍
报告摘要:
Carbon cage Fullerene molecules, like C60 found broad interest in basic research, after the discovery of an efficient way of production by Krätschmer and Huffman in 1990. Also in surface science Fullerenes became an important prototype molecular system, because it is relatively simple to produce well-defined structures, and rich physics has been found.
The investigation of charge transfer from the surface to C60, which is related to the molecular orientation that can be determined by x-ray photoelectron diffraction (XPD), and the observation of one-dimensional C60 chain systems will be discussed.
In the second part of the talk endofullerenes, i.e. carbon clusters, which encage atoms or molecules, will be presented. The examples of Ar@C60 and Dy3N@C80 are discussed. For the noble gas argon an unexpectedly large hybridization with the carbon cage was found. For the magnetic endofullerene we need to engage synchrotron based, resonant photoelectron diffraction (RXPD) at the Dy 3d edge in order to address the position of the dysprosium atoms inside the cage. Finally the potential of RXPD for the investigation of the magnetism of Dy inside C80 will be outlined.

报告人简介:
Prof. Greber studied Physics at ETH Zurich and obtained his PhD on “Two Aspects concerning 4f impurities on metals” in 1990.
From 1991 to 1994 he was Humboldt and SNF Fellow at the Fritz-Haber-Institut in Berlin, where he worked on non-adiabatic gas surface reactions. Since 1995 he is senior scientist and lecturer at the University of Zürich. His main interests are sp2 hybridized single layer templates on transition metals and molecules on such surfaces that he investigates with photoemission and scanning tunneling microscopy.
