报告介绍 | We report the first observation of polarization- and detection angle- dependent spontaneous emission in artificial atoms-semiconductor quantum dots. Using angle resolved white-light transmission spectroscopy we identified local in- and out-of-disc-plane surface plasmon (SP) resonances in the gold array. After depositing CdSe/ZnS (core/shell) nanocrystals on the array, we measured photoluminescence (PL) decay rates of the nanocrystals as a function of emission direction and polarization by time-correlated single photon counting technique. Since the emission wavelength of the nanocrystals was chosen to match the out-of-disc-plane SP resonance wavelength, the spontaneous emission of QDs is strongly dependent on detection angles and polarizations. Taking the detector arm rotation plane as a reference plane, the in-plane, s-polarized PL measurements are independent on detection angles, and their PL decay dynamics is described by two QD subsets respectively: from NCs on the dielectric substrate and from NCs on the gold nanodiscs that experience non-radiative quenching by the metal structures. The out-of-plane, p-polarized PL measurements show an increase of the PL amplitude and an acceleration of the PL decay. The angle and polarization dependent photoluminescence decay results from interaction between a fixed dipole and the photon field, according to quantum electrodynamics.
