报告介绍
Unlike conventional infrared transmission/reflection spectroscopy, which probes the longitudinal conductivity sxx of materials, infrared polarization-sensitive magneto-spectroscopy probes the transverse/Hall conductivity sxy. Whereas sxx reflects the sum of the optical response for left and right circularly polarized light, sxy is related to the difference and therefore is sensitive to small changes in symmetry induced by various parameters such as magnetic fields, magnetization, and strain. Infrared sxy measurements have provided new insight into a variety of interesting materials including high TC superconductors, magnetic semiconductors, and graphene. Even conventional materials such as the two-dimensional electron gas formed at a semiconductor heterojunction recently have shown unexpected behavior in the infrared sxy. In this talk, I will discuss our mid-infrared (100-1000 meV) Faraday and Kerr effect measurements on high TC superconductors and graphene.
