Abstract:
Quantum optical investigations on self-assembled quantum dots have enabled incredible progress in the quest for spin-based quantum information processing in recent years. State initialisation, manipulation and readout have all been demonstrated with a promising degree of fidelity. I will first present a selected overview of recent work on the optical control of spins, and then proceed to discuss the potential role of self-assembled quantum dots in the emerging field of quantum metrology.
