报告人简介: Prof. Gillian Gehring earned her doctoral degree at the University of Oxford and spent one year as a post doc with C. Kittel in Berkeley. She has taught physics for 21 years at Oxford before joining the staff of the Department of Physics & Astronomy at Sheffield University. Since her retirement, she's became an Emeritus Professor and has been devoting almost all her time to research. Her work is primarily concerned with magnetism and orbital ordering. In 2009 she was awarded the Mott Medal and Prize and was also elected as an Honorary Fellow by the UK Institute of Physics. She also has interests in developing material to enthuse primary school children about science as well as encouraging women to study physics.
