报告介绍
报告摘要:
Silicene, a single sheet of silicon atoms arranged in a honeycomb lattice, was supposed to have similar physical properties as that of graphene. In this presentation, I will show the first successful growth of monolayer silicene on metal surface through molecular beam epitaxy. The scanning tunneling microscopy investigation reveal Silicene on Ag(111) surface exhibits Ö3´Ö3 honeycomb superstructure and undergoes a phase transition below 40K. First principle calculations show the superstructure of silicene results from the spontaneous ultra buckling and dynamic phase transition of two energy-degenerate and mirror-symmetric Ö3´Ö3 rhombic phases. From the quasiparticle interference (QPI) patterns observed in dI/dV maps, we derived linear energy-momentum dispersion, a large Fermi velocity, and strong decay rates, which prove the existence of chiral Dirac fermions in silicene. Moreover, through mapping the QPI patterns in q space, we find the Dirac cones of silicene are not circular as in graphene, but significantly warped to hexagon. The theoretical calculations reveal that the hexagonal constant energy contours of Dirac cones stem from the unique structure of silicene.
