It is accepted that different morphology and nanostructure of functional materials lead to unique physical-chemical properties which are different from those of bulk materials. In the present talk, some environmental friendly soft chemical synthesis processes, morphology and nanostructure control, function control of some inorganic materials such as zinc oxide, cerium oxide, strontium titanate, and cesium bronze will be introduced. Much unique morphology such as rod-like, nut-like plate-like, screw-like, flower-like and spherical particles of some desired oxides can be selectively synthesized. Some novel functions such as hydrophilicity, UV-shielding ability, UV and visible light induced photocatalytic activity, IR/NIR shielding properties of these materials are realized by controlling the morphology and nanostructure. These inorganic materials have wide applications on environmental purification, self-cleaning thin film, multifunctional cosmetics, high sensitive gas sensors, smart window and piezoelectric devices etc. Some recent research topics such as “water controlled-release solvothermal process”, “non-stoichiometric photocatalyst” and “luminescent photocatalyst” will be introduced also.
